The Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI) at the University of Kentucky (UK) was established in 2015 with the recruitment of Dr. GQ Zhang as its Inaugural Director. IBI provides an environment for multidisciplinary team science to advance biomedical informatics and improve human health.

The academic home of IBI is the Division of Biomedical Informatics in the Department of Internal Medicine, UK College of Medicine. IBI has twelve core faculty with academic appointments in the Division of Biomedical Informatics and four affiliated faculty from other academic units at UK. Trainees associated with IBI are studying under core faculty members.

IBI provides expertise to the Biomedical Informatics Core of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), an NCATS-funded CTSA hub, as well as other UK centers and institutes.
