Biography

Dr. Kavuluru primarily works in the field of natural language processing for biomedicine involving textual data from scientific literature, clinical narratives, and social media posts with the overall goal of extracting actionable information from these unstructured sources. High-level applications of his research include cohort selection for clinical trials, literature based knowledge discovery, knowledge-based exploratory search, and clinical decision support for precision medicine. He employs methods mainly from machine learning (including deep learning) and data mining areas to drive his research agenda. His ongoing NIH funded projects include relation extraction from biomedical literature and thematic analysis of electronic-cigarette messages on social media. Graph analytics, knowledge representation, information security, and cryptography are his other areas of interest.
